Building hotels that define destinations

From convention center anchors to boutique neighborhood gems, we deliver hospitality projects that transform communities and create lasting value.

For over three decades, Matthews has developed hospitality projects that become essential assets to the people and places around them.

We don't just build hotels—we create anchors for thriving neighborhoods, catalysts for economic development, and spaces where communities gather. From the 801+ room Omni Fort Lauderdale Hotel that transformed Fort Lauderdale's convention district to the Hotel Polaris in Colorado Springs, which is the first hotel ever built on an active military academy campus, we bring deep expertise and genuine commitment to every project.

Boutique hospitality, neighborhood

While we excel at large-scale convention hotels, CANVAS represents our boutique approach—creating properties that celebrate local culture and become neighborhood anchors. Each CANVAS is designed for its community, featuring local art, independent F&B concepts, and authentic character that resonates with both travelers and locals.

Our flagship CANVAS Hotel Dallas transformed a 1940s warehouse in the Cedars District into a 76-room hotel with rooftop pool, rotating art installations, and neighborhood restaurant. The project proved our thesis: authenticity attracts both guests and community.

The Matthews approach to hospitality

We navigate complexity

From federal partnerships to urban mixed-use developments, we thrive where others hesitate. Our experience includes navigating public-private partnerships, military protocols, convention authority relationships, and complex urban sites.

Scale meets boutique

We deliver convention hotels and boutique properties with equal excellence. This range reflects our versatility and deep understanding of different hospitality segments—from convention-driven flagships to neighborhood-focused boutiques.

Long-term partners

We don't exit at ribbon-cutting. Many projects remain in our portfolio, managed and operated to ensure they continue serving their communities effectively. This long-term commitment aligns our interests with our partners and communities.

Community impact first

Every hotel we develop strengthens its community—creating jobs, generating economic activity, and serving as gathering places. We measure success not just in financial returns but in lasting community benefit.
