The Museum of the Future is a striking torus-shaped architectural marvel that explores emerging technologies, innovation, and the possibilities of tomorrow through immersive, futuristic experiences.
Designed by Killa Architects and engineered by Buro Happold, Dubai’s multi-award-winning Museum of The Future has been described as ‘The most beautiful building on earth’ by HH Sheikh Mohamed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Ruler of the UAE.
Appointed by Meeras on behalf of Dubai Future Foundation, Matthews provided Development Management and Project Management on the base building and Project and Cost Management on the fit-out of the museum, leading multiple parties and construction works being delivered by an informed supply chain from around the world.
A torus-shaped structure clad in 1,024 unique stainless-steel panels inscribed with Arabic Calligraphy that acts as windows, Museum of The Future’s form has no internal columns – instead, the 77-meter-high building is supported by a complex steel diagrid framework. Developed using advanced parametric design tools with an algorithm to ‘grow’ the intricate internal structure, the building defies architectural convention and has been described as a landmark in urban engineering and one of the world’s most complex structures.
Spanning over 30,000 sq m, the museum’s seven floors are dedicated to exploring the future of science, technology, and innovation. Bringing together inventors, designers and researchers presenting a range of technologies, the museum is an incubator for ideas and designs and a driver for change, supporting the UAE’s ambition to be a global leader in technology, AI, sustainability, and space exploration.
Showcasing advanced environmental and sustainability methods, efficiently integrating water, insulation and cooling systems, more than 30% of the museum’s power is solar-generated, whilst the entire surface of the superstructure is made of specially developed glass, manufactured using new technologies to improve thermal isolation. Dedicated to setting a high standard for green buildings in the region, aligning with global efforts to promote sustainable practices within architectural design and construction, Museum of The Future achieved LEED Platinum status – making it the only museum in the Middle East to hold this prestigious title.
